NEGAUNEE– The Michigan State Police has announced the promotion of Sgt. Mark Giannunzio to lieutenant and assistant post commander of the MSP Negaunee Post and public information officer for the MSP’s Eighth District, which encompasses the entire Upper Peninsula.
In his new role, Giannunzio will be responsible for assisting with the operation of the Negaunee Post and the Munising Detachment and help manage the delivery of Michigan State Police services in Marquette and Alger counties, officials said in the announcement.
As public information officer, Giannunzio will serve as spokesperson for the MSP Eighth District Headquarters covering the Upper Peninsula. He will start his new position on Feb. 21.

NEGAUNEE The Michigan State Police has announced the promotion of Sergeant Thomas Nolan to first lieutenant and commander of the Negaunee Post.
As commander of the Negaunee Post, First Lieutenant Nolan is responsible for the operation of the Negaunee Post and the Munising Detachment, and will administer all Michigan State Police services in Marquette and Alger counties. He started in this new role on December 27th.
First Lieutenant Nolan enlisted with the department in 2000 and graduated as a member of the 119th Trooper Recruit School. In his 20-year career, First Lieutenant Nolan has served at the Reed City Post, Munising Post, and the Negaunee Post. He has held the ranks of trooper and uniform sergeant prior to taking on this new leadership role.

NEGAUNEE The Michigan State Police has announced the promotion of Detective Sergeant Matthew LaBonte to first lieutenant and commander of the Negaunee Post.
As commander of the Negaunee Post, First Lieutenant LaBonte is responsible for the operation of the Negaunee Post and the Munising Detachment, and will administer all Michigan State Police services in Marquette and Alger counties. He started in this new role on December 13, 2020.
LaBonte enlisted with the department in 2000 and graduated as a member of the 119th Trooper Recruit School. In his 20-year career, LaBonte has served at the Reed City Post, Gladstone Post, and the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. He is also a veteran of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team. He has held the ranks of trooper, uniform sergeant, and detective sergeant.

LaBonte graduated from Escanaba High School and earned a criminal justice degree from NMU. He has served at the Reed City Post, Gladstone Post and the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. He is also a veteran of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team.
