Actually are in human testing, we ve completed a study of over 500 people with this booster and we will have those data soon, but i think more importantly this is a booster vaccine that is really very similar to spike vax that we ve used in hundreds of millions of people around the world, it just has the messenger rna added to it the ba.4, 5, so it s very similar. i think we can safely and effectively protect people with this booster and we should all feel confident. let s talk about when people should be getting this booster. a lot of people were fully vaccinated and boosted last fall, some people may or may have not had covid in the interim. when should they be getting this booster? yeah. so, look, clearly this is a virus that continues to evolve and mutate and that s why people need boosting, because it s now escaping the antibodies that the original vaccine was able to generate for us all. ....

That work in the program. is that if you give monkeypox viruses of enough opportunities to mutate, and replicate, and change, we are worried. even though there s a small chance that that might happen. so that s one of the biggest issues. the smallpox vaccine, because people of a certain age got that as a kid, does that offer some protections though? it does, and again smallpox it offers almost lifelong protection. for monkeypox, probably about 85% protection. but we have a better vaccine than the drive backs that we originally used for smallpox. but it s very limited quantities. and it takes two doses. so one of the good things about this type of thing from president biden, is it continues to open up our national reserve. and there s one more declaration that would yet come, that would allow the fda to fast-track the treatment for monkeypox. ....

Urgency to do that. one of our viewers on twitter asked a really good question. this viewer asked i d like to know the likelihood of monkeypox variants and could it mutate into a more deadly variant? i don t think anyone knows the answer to that. but what we ve learned very well over the last 2.5 years of the coronavirus pandemic is the longer a virus remains in a community, the longer and the more people are infected, the more opportunities there is for the virus to mutate. but we have a very effective vaccine that s effective against smallpox, a disease that has been eradicated, as well as monkeypox, and now the challenge is to get at that into arms. i want to turn to president biden immediately. after biden tested negative, he was walking around without a mask, interacting with people. he is now positive again. how worried should people be ....

Response we re always going to be lagging, chasinging and hoping our immunity would outpace these variants? it doesn t have to be that way, laura, and the reason we say that, that is true. when you have a lot of dynamics of a virus replication in the community, you give a virus more of an opportunity to mutate. more likely, you ll get a new variant. by diminishing the circulation of virus in the community by vaccinations and boosting and masking where appropriate, and testing so that you can keep people separated who are infected, you cut down on that likelihood that you re going to get new variants, and with regard to the vaccines, it s important that you try and not only get a booster, but as you get more variants, we re going to be upgrading and updating the next level of boosters so that ....
