MADURAI: Bodies of the four fishermen from Ramanathapuram is expected to be brought to the Kottaipattinam harbour in Pudukkottai district this afternoon.
The fishermen, A Mesiya (30) of Thangachimadam, V Nagaraj (52) of Vattanvalasai, S Senthil Kumar (32) of Thaathanenthal and N Samson Darwin (28) of the Sri Lankan refugee camp at Mandapam, who went fishing from Kottaipattinam, Monday, were killed in an incident involving a Sri Lankan Navy vessel in the Sri Lankan waters off Pudukottai.
Their bodies, which washed ashore at Sri Lanka one after the other until Thursday, are being sent to India through the Lankan navy, Saturday.
Their kin and other fellow fishermen said they will not receive the bodies and performed the final rites till a second post-mortem is performed in India.

RAMANATHAPURAM
Demanding the Central government to immediately help release nine fishermen detained in Sri Lankan prisons, fishermen at Thangachimadam observed a fast here on Wednesday.
Fishermen from different organisations joined together and under the banner of ‘Meenava Thozhilalargal Orunginaippu Kuzhu, Thangachimadam,’ observed the fast where a large number of women also participated.
Speaking at the fast, U. Arulanandam of Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen, said that the Centre should establish a commission to probe into deaths of four fishermen in the Palk Bay on January 18 allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy. The police should be directed to register murder cases.

The bodies of the four fishermen, who reportedly died after their boat sank when the Sri Lankan Navy tried to apprehend them a few days ago, arrived at Kottaipattinam in Pudukottai district on Saturday.
The fishermen of this hamlet have been alleging that A. Mesiya, 30, V. Nagaraj, 52, N. Samson Darwin, 28, and S. Senthil Kumar, 32, were beaten to death by the Sri Lankan Navy for trespass. They hailed from Ramanathapuram district and set sail on a mechanised boat from the Kottaipattinam jetty on January 18.

Over 200 fishermen resorted to a road roko at coastal Kottaipattinam in Pudukottai district on Thursday, in the wake of the recovery of the bodies of fishermen in Sri Lanka, suspected to be of those reported missing from Tamil Nadu.

TRICHY: Condoling the death of four fishermen from Ramanathapuram, who went fishing at Kottaipattinnam of Pudukottai district on Thursday, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami wrote to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking for an investigation through the Indian high commission.
The fishermen were allegedly attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy.
He condemned the attack saying that it was an attempt by Sri Lankan Navy to destroy the livelihood of Tamil Nadu fishermen.
He said he would approach the Centre to ensure such attacks done occur again.
The deceased fishermen have been identified as A Mesiya, V Nagaraj, S Senthil Kumar and N Samson Darwin.

TRICHY: The bodies of four Tamil Nadu fishermen reported missing since they went out to sea from the Kottaipatinam jetty in Pudukottai district last Monday washed ashore on a Sri Lankan beach on Thursday, the Indian high commission in Colombo was informed.
Another group of fishermen who had set sail alongside the boat carrying the victims alleged that the quartet was attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing mid-sea.
Navy officials on Thursday contacted the Indian mission to say that the bodies had been found. There was no official confirmation about how the fishermen died.

Scores of fishermen blocked the road in the coastal town of Kottaipattinam in Pudukottai district on Thursday in the wake of bodies of fishermen, suspected to be of those reported missing from Tamil Nadu, being found in Sri Lanka.
The Alliance for the Release of Innocent Fishermen (ARIF) alleged that the Sri Lankan Navy had beaten up the four fishermen to death.
