Summary
Wakiso District and to some extent Kampala have been painted red after most of the political positions at all levels were scooped by members of the National Unity platform (NUP). However, without supporting NUP’s presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda, the FDC mouthpiece, managed to retain his seat by demolishing his opponents.

According to the Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda playbook, “a person shouldn’t go into politics simply to win a position. Rather a person should present himself to voters out of principle.”
The one thing I learnt since I became a member of parliament is that the work we do in parliament pleases just a fraction of
the constituency. There are people who appreciate the work you do. They hear you on radio and see you on TV and will follow and understand what an MP does.
Unfortunately, those are about 20 or 30 per cent. The rest of the constituency will want an MP who attends burials, weddings and pays school fees. I distributed more food in my constituency than government. That’s not the work of an MP but we represent people who are poor.
It was a surprise win for the visibly scared Lukwago who after seeing how the National Unity Platform (NUP) party candidates in the presidential and parliamentary elections had swept the Kampala votes saw a slim win for his return.
But people still showed trust in Lukwago after scooping 194,592 votes against NUP’s Nabilah Naggayi’s 60,082 votes.
The president of FDC Patrick Amuriat says that Lukwago was voted back because of his personality having served the city dwellers very well for the last two terms.
He also attributed Lukwago’ s win on the personality of the NUP candidate Ms Naggayi whom he said had already lost popularity among voters since she did nothing for people when she was a woman MP for over two terms.

Incumbent Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been re-elected for the third time to lead the capital City for the next five years.
After seeing how the National Unity Platform (NUP) party candidates in the presidential and parliamentary elections swept the Kampala vote last week, Mr Lukwago expected a tough ride in the Local Government elections on Wednesday.
