The health professionals that Luxembourg doesn't recognise - Delano


Luxembourg faces an acute shortage of healthcare staff in future, according to a recent report. And yet, among its residents are scores of experienced workers who trained outside of the EU and are unable to work.
Ibrahim has just started a new job as a physiotherapist in Luxembourg. But for the 33-year-old Syrian it is more than just a new job. It is the first time since 2012 that he has been able to work as a physiotherapist.
“I lost seven to eight years in the war in Syria,” he says, explaining that he initially trained for two years as a physiotherapist at his local health institute in Syria. Normally, that would allow him to work in a hospital, alongside a doctor. But not in Luxembourg, which does not recognise diplomas for doctors, dentists, pharmacists and vets obtained outside of the EU. ....

"3,000 to 4,000 social housing units" needed - Delano - Luxembourg in English


Protesters marched from the central train station to Place d Armes on Saturday afternoon for access to decent and affordable housing. Jean-Michel Campanella, one of the organisers, shares his thoughts about their demands. 
Around a thousand people already marched for affordable housing last October. Jean-Michel Campanella, president of the Mieterschutz tenants defense association, expected no less this Saturday, 27 March, on the European day of action for the right to housing. The Wunnrecht coalition, which brings together several associations, organised a national demonstration for access to decent and affordable housing  for the occasion to address a problem directly impacting Luxembourg.
“There are specificities according to the coalition associations in the demands,” Campanella says. “The transversal one is that the state makes an effort to build social housing. We have calculated 3,000 to 4,000 social housing units to be built or renovated. ....
