A section of road through Newtown will reopen for the Bank Holiday weekend. The road under Nantoer Bridge in Llanidloes Road has been closed since Tuesday while roadworks are being carried out. A Powys County Council spokeswoman said: “The road will then be closed again for a further two days next week, for resurfacing. Which two days will be confirmed ASAP. “After Friday, May 7, all road works will be completed. The only outstanding task will be to make some final adjustments to permanent traffic lights, which is planned for later in the month.” The Nantoer Bridge area of Llanidloes Road will have one traffic lane with two-way traffic-controlled lights once work is completed.
He said on Sunday morning (April 25): I have been notified by Powys Highways that the road underneath Nantoer Bridge will be closed this week until Friday. This is to allow completion of the project safely and quickly. There are pavement works on the East (Maesydail side) to complete. It likely that road surfacing works will be done the following week. Signage will be erected to show the closure Monday morning 26th April. The diversion will be signposted around the By Pass.
Councillor David Selby The new Cycle and pedestrian path under the bridge will be kept open, and residents within the closure area will be helped with access when required.
Roadworks lasting up to eight weeks on Llanidloes Road in Newtown are set to begin next week. Powys County Council has announced that work under Nantoer Bridge to the college and theatre will take place from Monday, March 15. The speed limit will be reduced from 40mph to 30mph, and the existing traffic lane under the bridge will be used to create an extra wide pavement for walkers and cyclists. Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We are really pleased to be able to start work on these safety improvements on Llanidloes Road. The work will make it significantly safer for pedestrians and cyclists using the shared use footpath under Nantoer Bridge to get to and from work, college and for leisure activities.

The speed limit on the approach and under the bridge will be reduced from 40mph to 30mph. The existing traffic lane under Nantoer Bridge will be used to create an extra wide pavement for walkers and cyclists. Road works will also begin in the New Year to extend a path between the college and theatre on Llanidloes Road.
