Ugandan pineapple factory suspends operations one year after commissioning A pineapple processing plant in the Ntungamo area ceased operations only one year after it started production. The fruit factory owned by the Nyakihanga Fruit and Vegetable Growers Cooperative began to suspend operations in February 2021. Nathan Mutungi, chairman of the Nyakihanga Fruit and Vegetable Growers Cooperative, said that due to numerous challenges requiring government intervention, they decided to suspend the operation of the factory. According to Mutungi, the factory's mechanical parts are incomplete, and filling and packaging machines are needed. Obviously, they have been packaging juice manually, which is both quality and time-consuming.
