National Bank warns of tough times ahead over fuel Price hike

One of the country’s leading financial institutions, National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc have warned that the effects of the recent fuel price increases will soon have a direct impact on people’s lives.
The Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE) listed bank in its April 2021 Economic Newsletter, however, says the inflationary pressure is expected to ease in the second quarter of 2021 largely due to the benefits of relatively low food prices in prospect of a good harvest this year.

“The Malawi kwacha depreciated by 4.6 percent against the dollar in the second half of 2020,” reads in part the bank’s newsletter.

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has sponsored the Institute of Bankers (IOB) in Malawi 2nd annual Women’s Conference with K1 million in the Gold Category.

The second IOB women conference will be held virtually through Microsoft teams from 18th to 19th March 2021 under the theme ‘Women that deliver’.
NBM plc Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa explained that the bank has partnered with IOB on the conference because it values women as drivers of development in the country.
“The Bank is keen on empowering female professionals and entrepreneurs. In 2019, the Bank unveiled Amayi Angathe, a product aimed at helping women entrepreneurs to access banking facilities which includes a collateral free credit facility repayable in 24 months, training and support. Through this and other products and initiatives, the Bank continues to provide support required for the growth and empowerment of women across the country.”

NBM plc Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa said in an interview yesterday that at least 120 customers with the highest number of transactions on the Bank’s digital platforms will have K50,000 credited to their accounts to boost their Valentine’s Day budgets.
“We are all aware that the year 2021 has started out on a sour note due to the recent upsurge of the Covid-19 pandemic and as a bank we thought of celebrating St Valentines with our customers and prospective customers to bring positivity and hope.”

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has rolled out an insurance premium financing facility where the bank will pay annual insurance premiums on behalf of its customers thereby freeing up their cash flow in the process.

Announcing the introduction of the facility in Blantyre, NBM plc Head of Retail Banking Division Oswin Kasunda said the Insurance Premium Finance (IPF) product allows the bank to pay insurance premiums to the insurance company on behalf of the customer and grants a loan to the customer which is repaid in monthly instalments.
