This Week in History: Injured rail passenger sued Erie railroad in 1922 | News, Sports, Jobs


99 years ago in 1922:
• Alleging that because of the crowded condition of a handcar on which he was riding, he was thrown off and suffered permanent injuries, George Limberopulos sued the Erie Railroad for $25,000 damages for an accident that was said to have occurred near Barberton in May of 1920. Limberopulos was a trackman employed by the company.
On the day mentioned, he and 14 others were placed on a handcar and were being taken to a point near Barberton. Owing to the crowd on the handcar and the speed, he said he was thrown off and injured.
Audrey Landles, a minor, by her next friend, John Landles, sued the Freedom Oil Works company for $3,000 damages for injuries alleged to have been received when an automobile in which she was riding was struck by a truck belonging to the defendant company. The accident occurred on Hubbard Coitsville Road on Nov. 30, 1921. ....
