Bangladesh adds 6,988 more to final list of freedom fighters

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has confirmed the names of nearly another 7,000 people from eight divisions on the final list of 1971 freedom fighters.

The ministry published the fresh list containing names of 6,988 individuals on its website on Sunday.
The list includes names of 1,942 people from Dhaka division, another 1,347 people from Chattogram, 573 others from Barishal, 770 people from Khulna, 567 freedom fighters from Mymensingh, 684 of them from Rajshahi, 572 registered from Rangpur and 533 more from Sylhet.
Sufi Abdullah Maruf, a spokesman for the ministry, said that the civil gazettes, not authorised by the National Freedom Fighters Council, was not included in the list. The unauthorised gazettes will be published later after regularisation. ....

The government has cancelled the freedom fighter certificates of 52 people including Mosleh Uddin Khan one of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Liberation War affairs ministry issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday following the recommendation of the 70th meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council.
The ministry s decision came as per the National Freedom Fighters Council Act 2002, more than seven months after the publication of the new list of freedom fighters.
As per the notification, Mosleh Uddin Khan, one of the killers of Bangabandhu is among the 52 people who were stripped of titles. ....

The government has revoked the freedom fighter certificates of 52 people, including ex-army officer Risaldar Mosleh Uddin Khan alias Moslem Uddin Khan, one of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A gazette notifying the cancellation of their titles was published on Jan 5 in line with the recommendations made during the 70th meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council.
Bangabandhu and his family members were brutally assassinated on Aug 15, 1975. Five of the killers, including Mosleh Uddin, who was sentenced to death, are on the run. Four of them were recipients of the freedom fighter gallantry awards, which the High Court in a ruling on Dec 15, had also suspended. ....
