Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], January 25 (ANI): Poonch district administration organised a programme themed "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" on the occasion of National Girl Child Day on Sunday.
Speaking to ANI, Khalida Zubain, a participant said, "I have won many medals at State level in Taekwondo. It is important to provide equal opportunities to girls in all spheres."
Mohammad Tanvir, District Programme Officer, ICDS Project, Poonch said that the district administration celebrated Nation Girl Child Day on Sunday and the celebrations are being held from January 21 to January 26.

A motorcycle rally was taken out by the district unit of Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) as part of the ongoing 32nd Road Safety Month celebrations and National Girl Child Day on Sunday.
The rally which began at the Gandhi Park, near GVMC, passed through Gurudwara, Kancharapalem, NAD, Gajuwaka, Balacheruvu Road, Gantyada and Gangavaram before reaching Yarada.
At Yarada Beach, the participants told visitors and the public on girl child’s protection and road safety. They displayed messages on road safety. Later, the rally continued via Yarada Hill, Sagara Durga temple, Scindia Junction and Naval Dockyard to conclude at Convent Junction.

HARIDWAR: On the occasion of the National Girl Child Day on January 24, Haridwar-resident Srishti Goswami will take charge as the chief minister of Uttarakhand for one day during the child assembly session in Dehradun.
A student of BSc Agriculture, Goswami lives in Daulatpur village of the district. Her father runs a small shop in the village and her mother is an Anganwadi worker.
Earlier in 2018, Srishti was selected as a law maker of the child assembly in Uttarakhand. In 2019, she went to Thailand to take part in Girls' International Leadership.
Her father Praveen Puri told TOI, “Srishti is a brilliant child. She wants to work for the upliftment of girl students everywhere. She is also part of a social organisation that motivates the girls towards getting education.”

BHUBANESWAR: On the occasion of National Girl Child Day on Sunday, the government plans to host a series of events to create awareness regarding the value of a girl child. On the day, members of panchayati raj institutions (PRI) will take mass pledge to ensure there is zero child marriage case in panchayats.
This day is celebrated to commemorate and recognise efforts towards increasing value of girl child and empowering them with knowledge and skill so that they can fulfil their potential and lead a life of dignity. The National Girl Child Week is also observed between January 24 and 30.
“The state is working to improve health, nutrition, education and well-being of girls. To mark the event, a district-level function may be organized to promote the rights of girls and create an enabling environment that helps secure space and prevents violence,” wrote Aravind Agrawal, director of ICDS and social welfare, women and child development, and Mission Shakti department, in a letter to district collectors.

New Delhi [India], January 23 (ANI): To increase the consciousness of people towards female foeticide and to provide new opportunities to the girl child in society, the Ministry of Women and Child Development will celebrate the 13th National Girl Child Day on January 24.
On this occasion, the government of India will organise awareness campaigns under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
The government of India had launched the BBBP scheme on January 22, 2015, to address major issues related to female empowerment in the country.

Sex ratio up from 918 in 2014-15 to 934 in 2019-20 | India News


NEW DELHI: There has been an improvement of 16 points in sex ratio at birth from 918 girls per 1000 boys in 2014-15 to 934 girls per 1000 boys in 2019-20, the ministry of women and child development said on Saturday.
Attributing the improvement to awareness and sensitisation efforts under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme launched in January 2015, the government pointed out that out of 640 districts covered under the scheme, 422 showed improvement in sex ratio at birth (SRB).
The WCD ministry issued the statement to mark the National Girl Child Day on Sunday. The ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme was launched by the Centre on January 22 in 2015 at Panipat in Haryana with the objective of bringing behavioural change in the society towards the rights of girl child.
