CAPE TOWN - Education unions have welcomed the matric class of 2020's results.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) and the National Professional Teacher's Organisation of South Africa praised have the Class of 2020 for their achievement.
The pass rate is 76.2% - down 5.1% from 2019.
The Basic Education Department said that while the overall pass rate declined year-on-year, those who passed, performed better than the class of 2019.

The Labour Appeal Court in December dismissed the applications by several public sector unions that would have forced government to pay wage increases for 2020.
In papers filed with the Constitutional Court unions say this decision is the "death knell" to collective bargaining.
Labour unions say that the matter is of national importance – affecting 1.3 million workers in the public sector and it involves the potential payment of billions of rand.

Image: SABC NewsMinister Angie Motshekga announced last Friday that learners would rewrite Mathematics Paper Two and Physical Science Paper Two on December 15 and 17 respectively.
The High Court in Pretoria will on Friday deliver judgment in an application challenging the Basic Education Department’s decision that the two leaked matric exam papers should be rewritten. It will be delivered at 2 pm.
The two papers in question are Physical Science Paper Two and Mathematics Paper Two.
Minister Angie Motshekga announced last Friday that learners would rewrite the two papers on December 15 and 17 respectively.
Motshekga says the two papers must be rewritten to protect the integrity of the matric examinations:
