The Arewa Network for Good Governance has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to broaden the scope of its investigation on Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).    The group asked the anti-corruption agency to delve further into her tenure at the cash transfer office, saying it could unearth additional irregularities and shed more light on the extent of her involvement in these reprehensible activities.  

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), after questioning her. She was grilled about N37,170,855,753.44 allegedly laundered by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, which was led by former Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouk. This was confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale on Thursday.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested and detained the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu, over the ongoing investigation into the N37,170,855,753.44 allegedly laundered in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, under former Minister, Sadiya Umar-Farouk.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the suspension of Halima Shehu as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). Tinubu approved the immediate suspension and investigation of Ms Shehu, while Dr Akindele Egbuwalo the National N-Power Programme manager was appointed in acting capacity as NC/CEO pending the conclusion of the investigation, according to Channels TV. Halima Shehu was appointed by President Tinubu in October 2023, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on October 18, 2023.
