Giant skateboard rolls into town promoting new Olympic sport
The skateboard is 12 metres long and weighs 800 kilograms. It is named Eke Tahi, which means “Ride as One”. It celebrates the fact that for the first time in Olympic history, skateboarding will be featured at the 2020 Toyko Games. Skateboarder Matthew Markland who is in the national street skating team and is travelling the country with the board, hopes to represent New Zealand in the event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
