Farangipet located between Mangaluru and BC Road on National Highway 75 once infamous for stench emanating from fish stalls located on the highway continues to remain infamous even after these stalls have been shifted.
Even before entering Farangipet, just after one crosses Arkula Junction, one would be welcomed by a reeking rivulet filled to its brim with animal waste. Over the years, meat merchants of Farangipet and adjoining areas have made this rivulet joining the Netravathi a little ahead, a dumping yard for animal waste. ....

Mangaluru, Mar 8: Women India Movement observed International Women’s Day by felicitating five achievers in Mangaluru on Monday.
The achievers who were felicitated are Sabitha Monis who was born without arms and was recently selected for the Women Achievers award-2021, instituted by Press Council of India and Karnataka Newspapers Association, Ayesha (Karkala), Ashleen (Mangaluru), Shamshad (Mangaluru) and Reshma (Mangaluru).

Bengaluru, Mar 1: Putting behind the travails of the Covid-19 pandemic that disrupted normal life for nearly a year, Karnataka budget for fiscal 2021-22 would focus more on development works and women s welfare, said state Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday.
The state budget for the ensuing fiscal will give priority to development works and women s welfare. This is my assurance to all women in the state, said Yediyurappa in Kannada at a public event at Soraba in Karnataka s Shivamogga district.
The month-long budget session of the state legislature will begin on March 4 and Yediyurappa, who holds the finance portfolio, will present his 8th budget on March 8 in the legislative assembly. ....

Mangaluru, Feb 24: Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic, Year 2020 proved to be unique for Mangaluru based Anti Pollution Drive Foundation (APDF). While APDF reached out to hundreds of needy people with food and relief during Covid lockdown, the ongoing activity of building toilets for needy homes continued unabated. APDF, along with Hasiru Dala, attained success in its initiatives for providing welfare to waste pickers and bringing them into the mainstream of society. APDF-Hasiru Dala partnership also resulted in sustainable, result-oriented projects to provide long lasting solutions for healthy waste disposal.  ....
