Picture: Wyke Coastguard CRT COASTGUARD officers sprung into action after spotting a red flare at a popular Weymouth beauty spot - but it turned out to be fireworks. Wyke Coastguard were called after 6pm on Sunday, January 10 to investigate reports of a red flare being sighted in the area. Upon arrival at their station, they saw that fireworks were being fired in the area. Team members travelling towards Newtons Cove saw a group of youth people walk away from the tourist spot. A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard said that after being satisfied fireworks were just being fired in the area and there was no one in danger, they stood down and returned to their station.
