Nine residents displaced after fire on Hamilton Street in Worcester Sunday morning
There were no injuries, but nine people were displaced, said Deputy Fire Chief Martin Dyer. The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said. There was heavy damage to the porches, "and the entire egress is lost," Dyer said. The cost of the damage is about $321,000, he said. The fire was reported around 6 a.m. and everyone got out safely. One resident retrieved two pairs of sneakers, saying they were all he had left. James Alexandre, who lives on the first floor, said he was alerted to the fire by a knock on his window. By the time he got outside the building was in flames, he said.
