Karachi has braced itself for the worst that comes with cricket to the city - the gridlocks.
The metropolis will host the first Pakistan Super League (PSL) VI match today (Saturday) and while the National Stadium, the venue for the match - is expected to brim with excitement and exuberance, the rest of the city is likely to present a traffic nightmare, with no way out for troubled commuters stuck in a logjam.

According to a traffic plan issued ahead of the tournament, only small vehicles are allowed on the roads in the vicinity of the National Stadium until the last PSL match in the city on March 7. ....

The traffic police issued a diversion plan ahead of Pakistan Super League VI matches - scheduled to take place from February 20 to March 7 in Karachi. However, on Monday night, the relevant authorities went ahead with closing roads, causing inconvenience to citizens.
According to a notification issued by the traffic police, the road connecting Liaquatabad to Hassan Square flyover and the stretch of Sir Shah Muhammad Sulaiman Road between the turning nearby the Expo Centre and the National Stadium will be closed for traffic and commuters will have to take a detour to University Road to reach their destinations. ....

Infuriated by Prime Minister Imran Khanâs statement that equated the demand of Quetta protesters for his visit with âblackmailing the premierâ, Shia groups and the Hazara community expanded their protest sit-ins against the Machh tragedy to more locations in Karachi, blocking multiple major roads in the city that resulted in not only massive traffic jams but also clashes between protestors and commuters.
Eleven miners of the Shia Hazara community were brutally killed before dawn on Sunday while they were asleep near a remote coal mine in the mountainous area of Machh in Balochistan. The Islamic State (IS) claimed the responsibility for the attack. ....

At least five motorcycles were set ablaze on Friday reportedly after commuters clashed with Shia community protestors near Drigh Road, Sharea Faisal in Karachi.
The countrywide protests that began three days ago, to express solidarity with families of 11 Hazara community miners in Machh, Balochistan last week, have spread to over 15 different spots in Karachi.
Road blocks put in place owing to the protests have resulted in gridlocks across the city at peak hours. However, traffic is being diverted from affected roads to alternative routes. ....
