The funding which is coming through FedNor was announced Wednesday, and is going to programs that are creating and maintaining jobs, supporting recovery efforts, and boosting economic development and growth in the region. ....

The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, and Member of Parliament, Thunder Bay-Superior North, and Marcus Powlowski, Member of Parliament, Thunder Bay-Rainy River, today announced more than $1 million to support six initiatives designed to create and maintain jobs, support recovery efforts and maximize economic development and growth opportunities across the Thunder Bay-Superior North region. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for FedNor.

Immigration Project Getting Help From FedNor

Almost half a million dollars is going towards the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot project.
The Community Economic Development Commission is one of several Thunder Bay-Superior North initiatives that will receive support from FedNor.
FedNor, which stands for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, is investing $490,500 to help the CEDC with the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.
“[The money] will help maintain our three year contract for a program coordinator,” CEDC CEO Eric Zakrewski said. “It’s a local position in our office that helps administer the program under a deal with the federal government.” ....

Feds announce funding for Thunder Bay immigration pilot project

THUNDER BAY The federal government has approved nearly half a million dollars to support the implementation of its Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot in the Thunder Bay area.
Coordinated by the Community Economic Development Commission, the project provides outreach and education activities with employers regarding immigration pathways to help them meet their workforce needs.
It also supports employer diversity-readiness training, and the marketing and promotion of in-demand jobs to newcomers from Canada and from other countries. ....
