The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) has called on the people to take precautions for the safety of children and create awareness at the local level in the wake of predictions that children will be most affected if there is a third wave of COVID-19.
In a statement here on Thursday, the council asked the government to ensure availability of COVID-19 vaccines and arrange for all sections of the people to get the vaccine. It also sought permission for conducting church rituals with limited public participation and adherence to COVID-19 protocols as part of lockdown relaxations being announced by the government.

The non-teaching staff and nurses of the J.N. Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal on Thursday submitted mass resignation letters to the authorities seeking the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission. This is the only medical college hospital run by the State government.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren, who also holds Health portfolio, has been appealing to the employees to refrain from taking such steps. There are around 190 doctors, several nurses and non-teaching staff in the institute.

Service norms set for employees of self-financing colleges

Governor promulgates ordinance in this regard
Unqualified employees of self-financing colleges in the State will be required to meet the eligibility norms laid down by regulatory bodies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC) within a stipulated time-frame decided by the government.
The requirement has come into effect with the promulgation of the Kerala Self-Financing College Teaching and Non-Teaching Employees (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Ordinance, 2021, by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Sunday. While the law guaranteed service conditions of employees in self-financing colleges, it also establishes norms for appointments.
The law also required educational agencies (or managements) of self-financing colleges to fix working days and working hours and provide public holidays, casual leave and maternity leave for teaching and non-teaching employees on par with government and aided colleges. Appointees and educational agencies will have to enter into agreements that state conditions of service including post, scale of pay, increment, grade, promotion, period of appointment, salary, allowance and overtime duty. The age limit for appointments and the age of retirement will be as determined by the regulatory bodies.
