The mayor of Lunenburg, N.S., says council is now considering "alternate options" after facing backlash for renaming the town's Cornwallis Street after the queen.
Last week, Lunenburg, N.S., voted to go with the results of a public survey that favoured the name Queen. But the point of renaming the street in the first place was to reflect Mi'kmaw culture.
The former Cornwallis Street in Halifax is now Nora Bernard Street, named after the Mi’kmaq activist and residential school survivor.
Nora Bernard was a residential school survivor who fought a 15-year court battle to win compensation for Indigenous children forced to attend those schools.
