Housing Starts In Normal Are At The Edges Of Town

AP For the first time in years substantial numbers of new homes are being built in Bloomington-Normal. Most of the new housing development in Normal is happening closer to the edges of town than filling in or redeveloping areas closer to existing neighborhoods. City Manager Pam Reece said the town has seen activity in Greystone Fields near Normal West high school, Pheasant Ridge, Blackstone Trails, Northbridge, and the Vineyards. McLean County Schools Report More COVID Cases, Quarantined Students

Staff / WGLT UPDATED 11:50 a.m. | Hundreds of Unit 5 students were quarantined in the past week as McLean County faces a third wave in coronavirus cases, this time affecting more young people. There were 400 students in Unit 5 who were newly quarantined over the past week, with 55 new students testing positive for the coronavirus, according to Unit 5’s data dashboard updated on Friday. The previous high for this year was last week (with 128 newly quarantined students and 43 positive tests). Unit 5 Dismisses Teacher In Abuse Case; Passes Tax Levy

The Unit 5 school voted Wednesday night to formally dismiss a teacher charged with sexually abusing his students. Those charges were later dropped. Jonathan Hovey was charged in 2019 with sexually abusing two of his students while employed as a first-grade teacher at Glenn Elementary School. Hovey hasn’t been in the classroom since April 14, 2019. He was placed on administrative leave one day after Unit 5 received information from a mother whose child reported being abused “almost every day” during the 2017-18 school year.
