Minuteman III Missile Test Launch Set for This Week at Vandenberg AFB
The Louisiana-based military organization oversees the land-based and air-launched nuclear weapon systems. The three-stage Minuteman missile can travel some 6,000 miles and has been deployed since 1970, with the military marking the weapon system’s 50th anniversary last year. The nation has some 400 Minuteman III missiles sitting on alert around F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming; Minot AFB, North Dakota, and Malmstrom AFB, Montana.
