Story updated at 5:49 p.m. Wednesday: Heavy rainfall swept over Lawrence on Tuesday afternoon between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., causing pools of water on streets. Brandon Drake, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Topeka, said around 3 p.m. that the heaviest rainfall of the day had likely passed, but that rain was expected to continue throughout the evening in scatters until around midnight.
