ANA, JAL to halve flights; Shinkansen, buses face cuts

TOKYO - Major airlines are set to cut more domestic flights in response to the government s state of emergency declaration covering Tokyo and neighboring Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures. Services are to be cut by around 50% from levels initially set for this fiscal year.
Airlines have moved to suspend flights mainly on routes to and from Haneda Airport beginning in mid-January and lasting until around the end of the month.
The altered schedules include All Nippon Airways (ANA) cutting about 2,700 flights, Japan Airlines (JAL) axing about 3,570 flights and Skymark Airlines slashing about 640 flights. ANA and JAL will waive cancellation fees on all domestic routes during the state of emergency. ....
