The Atacama Desert in Chile is one of the darkest and most peaceful astronomical sites on Earth and has, as a result, proven to be the perfect location for ESO’s various observatories and powerful instruments.

Cosmic rays are causing an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 malfunctions in domestic network communication devices in Japan every year, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. found recently.

The Lower House rejected Thursday a no-confidence motion against communications minister Ryota Takeda that was submitted by opposition parties over ethics code violations by ministry officials who were treated to lavish dinners by company executives.

A senior government official with close ties to Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga resigned Tuesday after being reprimanded over a wining and dining scandal that involved other officials and companies that they supervise.
