Howard Collects Four Hits, Pelicans Roll to 7-2 Win over Wood Ducks

Pelicans SS Ed Howard fell a home run short of the cycle in the victory
After the first two innings went scoreless between the two teams, the Pelicans struck first with two runs in the third. Fabian Pertuz, Howard, and Flemin Bautista all singled to load the bases on Gomez. After Ryan Reynolds was retired on a lineout, Gomez was taken out for Tejada. The reliever struggled with location, as he walked Mervis and Wetzel to bring home both runs for the Pelicans to take a 2-0 lead.
Down East responded with one run in the next half-inning. Cody Freeman worked a one-out walk, while Cristian Inoa reached base after Jordan Nwogu dropped a routine fly ball in left field. Frisco played a pair today. Tyler Phillips pitched the opener, got three ground outs in the first, and the went homer-single-homer-homer in the second and got pulled. Blake Bass threw a scoreless inning. Josh Jung went one for three. Jax Biggers homered.
In Game Two, Yerry Rodriguez took the bump for the Roughriders. He went four shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks, striking out seven. Hever Bueno struck out three in two scoreless innings, and Fernery Ozuna threw a scoreless seventh for the save. Sherten Apostel picked up a pair of doubles, and J.P. There were five games on tap in the Rangers minor league system today, as Down East played a doubleheader to make up its rainout from yesterday.
In game one for Down East, the DEWDs won 1-0 on extras. Carolina logged just a single hit, off starter Wyatt Sparks, who struck out four and walked one in 4 IP. Nick Starr, Joe Corbett and Joshua Javier combined for four shutout no hit innings after Sparks. The three hits for Down East came from Obie Ricumstrict, Evan Carter (who had two walks, one intentional) and Dustin Harris, who had the walk off single and also walked. Jayce Easley drew a pair of walks and stole two bases. Evan Carter also had a stolen base. ....
