Tasmanian jobs growth remains steady with the latest ABS payroll jobs data again confirming there are more jobs in Tasmania now than before the pandemic.
While other states saw jobs decline in the four weeks to 8 May, the data highlighted that jobs in Tasmania remained steady, with 0.9 per cent more jobs than mid-March last year.
In a sure sign that business confidence remains strong, Tasmania recorded the largest rebound in job vacancies in the nation, with job advertisements 71 per cent higher in April compared to before the pandemic.
Tasmania is also bucking the national trend on exports, with preliminary export data for the 12 months to April 2021 showing exports grew 4.6 per cent over the year to $3.75 billion – compared to a 3.9 per cent decline nationally. ....

Seasonal fall in payroll jobs into April: Australia

Payroll jobs fell across all age groups in the fortnight to 10 April 2021, ranging from a 2.9 per cent fall in jobs held by 15 to 19 year-olds to a 0.6 per cent fall for 60 to 69 year-olds.
Mr Jarvis said, “The latest fortnight of data saw a fall in payroll jobs in almost every industry.”
“The two most impacted industries during the COVID period (Accommodation and food services and Arts and recreation services) saw payroll job declines of 4.0 per cent and 4.4 per cent over the fortnight.”
“Payroll jobs recovery remains weakest in the Accommodation and food services industry, at 11.2 per cent below pre-pandemic levels.”

Decades of Queensland’s exploration data now available to all explorers is expected to encourage the resources sector to grow in the future.
Resources Minister Scott Stewart said data sharing would help drive positive investment across the state and in turn Queensland’s economy.
“Data and the sharing of that information is what will drive our world-class resources sector in the near future – it is the lifeblood of exploration,” Mr Stewart said.
“Almost 20,000 new industry exploration reports spanning the last 50 years will be made available to the resources industry, leading to greater transparency and bringing to light information relating to the exploration of Queensland’s coal and minerals. ....
