The India Meterological Department said a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on August 19. A yellow alert has been issued for five districts in the state and heavy rainfall warning has been issued.
Odisha is already reeling under the effects of a downpour, caused due to depression. It led to the flooding of villages and low-lying areas across many districts, the collapse of several bridges over swollen rivers, and landslides disrupting road connectivity.

On Friday, special relief commissioner in Odisha Pradeep Kumar Jena said that massive devastation is not expected from Cyclone Jawad. The cyclone is likely to make landfall between December 4 evening and December 5 morning, he said.
