By nightfall on Wednesday, the Tuggles Gap wildfire in the Ravens Den, Tuggles Gap, and Blue Ridge Parkway area of Woolwine in Patrick County had grown to more than 850 acres and was only 35% contained.
The Virginia Department of Forestry interactive fire map indicated the Tuggles Gap fire in the northwestern region of Patrick County had grown to 500 acres and was 10% contained as of 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday.
The county-wide burn ban is still in effect and will remain in effect until further notice.
An observant citizen took quick action to avert a maritime blaze.
