No fewer than nine suspects have been remanded by a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State for allegedly beating a Final-Year student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Okoli Ahize, to death. SaharaReporters had reported that Okoli Ahinze, a 500-level student of the school was mobbed to death for alleged theft. It was gathered that the deceased was beaten to death inside the Awo Hall on Monday. The student was said to have been rushed to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Ile-Ife after complications on Tuesday.

The legal firm of human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has written to Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, requesting information on the brutal killing of one Okoli Ahize Chizoputam, a final year Student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-ife, Osun State. Chizoputam, a 500-Level engineering student, was gruesomely killed by some students on April 21, 2023 at the campus for allegedly stolen a phone.

As in the Adamawa case, we have to resolve to derail this train of impunity by ensuring the murderous OAU mob is brought to justice swiftly.
