Effects of oxytocin on psychiatric symptoms depend on personality
A study of hospitalized patients with severe mental illness in Israel revealed that the effects of the hormone oxytocin on psychiatric symptoms depend on personality characteristics. Oxytocin administration improved symptoms in participants low in openness and extraversion, but led to a deterioration of the working alliance with the therapist in participants low in agreeableness and neuroticism.
