Half billion dollars worth of it. that said, we we did exactly what president trump and his administration wanted on defense. they wanted a robust increase, $700 billion for the department of defense. this is a very big win for the administration. got exactly what they asked for. so the president said he couldn t stand that bill, you know? well, he was part of the budget agreement that set the framework out and his administration was part of the negotiation. he thought it was a lousy bill and he ll never sign another thing like that he said? his secretary of defense is very happy about this situation. we did exactly pretty much what jim mattis wanted us to do. it s hard to say on wunt the hand they appreciate what we ve done and saying that s a terrible bill. that doesn t bode well for the future of these communications. i d rather not do omnibuses either. the nature of the u.s. senate ....
Look at long-term reforms. there s a number of the new senators led by david perdue from georgia looking at ways to make sure we don t keep doing these crs or omnibuses at the end of the year that are these massive spending bills. we re trying to get democrats interested in these long-term reforms. but tonight the most immediate thing is to keep our government open and not shut down the government. i m hoping that my colleagues in the senate, democrats and republicans will agree and we pass this cr in a couple hours. a lot of us are hoping that. those of us who have lived through these government shutdowns here in washington and elsewhere know the pain that s going to be suffered as a result and the enormous cost to american taxpayers down the road, loss in revenue, loss in the economy. it s a big, big deal. good luck. thank you. senator dan sullivan of alaska. just ahead, we re going to get another update on all the last-ditch efforts to keep the government running. ....
There had been a couple of fact-check reports to come out just today saying there wasn t really much of any pork in that legislation. there was some additional spending on other items, but it was very small, with respect to and compared to the vast majority of that funding, which did go to disaster relief. are you hopeful this time that people don t play politics with this sort of thing? absolutely. look, i ve been a proponent from day one, if you looked at my voting record, on omnibuses and continued resolutions buy were you exception. looked to all the embargo in place from 73. i voted against all of those, because i think bills should be stand-alone, appropriations should be passed on their merit and not simply joined with something else to make it palatable. right. in a perfect world, obviously, things are thrown into bills you don t like. in hindsight, though, do you think you should have voted for ....
