Major fires in Haarlem and Almere trigger NL-Alerts; Almere blaze still out of control

The emergency services issued NL Alerts for two major fires in Almere and Haarlem. Firefighters are still trying to get the blaze in a thrift store and clothing storage unit on an industrial terrain in Almere under control. The fire in an appliance store in Haarlem has been extinguished. Locals in both municipalities are urged to stay out of the smoke. As far as is known, no one got hurt.

Mother arrested after one child found dead, second child hurt in Almere home

Emergency services workers found one child dead, and a sibling injured in an Almere home on Tuesday, police confirmed in a statement the following morning. The mother of both children was taken into police custody while the case was under investigation. Police found the children in an apartment on Bovenloop in the Almere Haven district at about 11:30 p.m. Sources close to the investigation told the Telegraaf that the deceased child was a one-year-old baby, and the injured child is a two-year-old girl.

Ten homes evacuated after an explosion at housing complex in Almere

There was an explosion reported at a housing complex in Almere on Wednesday. The front of the building on the Bolaciahof is heavily damaged, according to a police spokesperson. Another explosion was also reported at a commercial property in Vlaardingen, and two cases where explosives may have been found brought police out to Urmond and Geleen in Limburg. The Almere explosion led to the evacuation of ten homes, the police spokesperson there said. The inhabitants of those homes were being housed elsewhere. There were no injuries.

Lia de Clerck, the first resident of Almere in the province of Flevoland, passed away on Sunday, the city's archive office reported on Monday. She celebrated her 90th birthday last week, on November 28, and two days later was the 47th anniversary of her relocation to Almere. De Clerk moved to Almere in 1976, and was handed the first key on November 30 of that year, after the first house in the new city was finished.

Baby's death in Emmeloord the result of a dog bite, autopsy shows

A baby who died after an incident on Thursday had been badly wounded by a dog bite, police said on Monday. The incident happened at a home on the Staalstraat in Emmeloord, Flevoland. The injured child was brought to the Antonius Hospital in the city on Thursday morning to investigate the situation.
