The Public Prosecution Service (OM) recommended 10 years in prison with institutionalized psychiatric treatment against Jamel L. on Thursday for the murder of 36-year-old Antoneta Gjokja. The 57-year-old man killed her with multiple stab wounds at her job at an Albert Heijn branch on Turfmarkt in The Hague on June 20 last year.

Money scattered over Dutch highway after traffic accident

A traffic accident on the A44 highway near Oestgeest, just north of Leiden, left money strewn over the street. Police officers spent quite some time collecting the many banknotes, which presumably came from one of the two cars involved in the collision. The accident was first reported just before 00:50 a.m. on Friday on the southbound lanes of the A44 highway. Police, firefighters, and paramedics were quickly sent to the scene.

Two pulled from sea in The Hague; Resuscitated at scene

Emergency services rescued two people from the water off the coast of Kijkduin in The Hague on Sunday evening. They were resuscitated at the scene and rushed to a hospital in critical condition, a spokesperson for the fire brigade told Omroep West. A passerby found two piles of clothing and a dog on the Kijkduin beach at around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. No people were in sight, so they called the emergency services.

Student rescues woman whose car crashed into an icy Delft canal

A student became a Delft family’s hero on Thursday. A woman’s car slipped on the icy road in the city center and crashed upside-down into the canal. The 23-year-old man saw it happen and immediately jumped into the freezing water to save her, the police said on Instagram. According to the police, the woman lost control of her vehicle when it skidded on the icy road. The car ended up upside-down in the canal. The woman was on her way to pick up her three children at school when the accident happened.
