NEW CCTV cameras in Kendal are already helping police to tackle crime as the town received another camera under its countywide scheme. Ambleside and Milnthorpe are also set to receive one more camera each and Kirkby Lonsdale two as phase two of the CCTV programme continues to be rolled across Cumbria. The new camera is Kendal’s eighth to be installed as part of the scheme and is located on Gooseholme. DOZENS of officers have joined Cumbria Police as part of a national recruitment campaign. Cumbria Police has been recruiting dozens of new officers to hit its allocated target of 51 extra officers each year. The force has exceeded its target set by Operation Uplift - a national recruitment campaign to recruit an additional 20,000 officers nationally by 2023. A spokesman said: "These extra officers, are now training and working in force and out in their area's, protecting our communities and helping to keep Cumbria safe."

New Bury St Edmunds police inspector Andy Beeby - Credit: Suffolk Constabulary/Archant A new police inspector for Bury St Edmunds has set out some of the challenges and opportunities of the job ahead.  Inspector Beeby, who already lives in the area, worked for the last four years as custody manager at the local police investigation centre.  He joined Suffolk Constabulary in 1998 and arrived in Bury St Edmunds as part of the armed policing team in 2003, before a spell as sergeant at Mildenhall seven years later.
