SMART breakthrough in materials discovery enables twistronics for bulk systems - Vimarsana News

SMART breakthrough in materials discovery enables twistronics for bulk systems

Date Time SMART breakthrough in materials discovery enables twistronics for bulk systems The findings allow manipulation of materials for the first time by stacking films at a twist angle, allowing a new way to control light emitting from materials Recent discoveries focused on manipulation of atomically-thin 2D materials, while the new breakthrough can be used to stack technologically-relevant 3D materials at a twist angle Method allows continuous, systematic control of optical emission intensity and energy, and can produce ultraviolet emissions at room temperature for bulk systems The disco...

A novel light harvesting engine strings buckyballs and chromophores on DNA

26 Feb 2021 Share: Researchers have synthesised a novel type of organic light-harvesting supramolecule by arranging fluorescent dyes and bucky balls in three-dimensions using a DNA scaffold. The resulting helical string of electron donors and acceptors has the ability to increase quantum efficiency by suppressing 'self-quenching'. Researchers from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology show that DNA can serve as a scaffold for light-harvesting supramolecules, where fluorescent dyes work as electron donors and buckyballs as electron acceptors. The DNA’s regular 3D structure increases th...

Antimony Thin Films' Benefits to Photonic Applications - Vimarsana News

Antimony Thin Films' Benefits to Photonic Applications

Image Credit: Bjoern Wylezich/Shutterstock.com Antimony is a metallic element commonly used in the semiconductor industry due to its high charge mobility. However, while it has been traditionally famed for its charge transport capabilities, several recent developments have suggested that antimony thin films may offer some highly desirable, tunable optical properties as well. Switchable Films Recent work in Science Advances has demonstrated that antimony thin films can be switched between two distinct states using light pulses, with exciting implications for combining optoelectronics and pl...
