The new Covid-19 wave is driven by BA.4 and BA.5 which are highly-transmissible, the European Medicines Agency has warned.

India on Friday saw a single-day rise of 18,815 new coronavirus infections, taking the tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,35,85,554, while the active cases increased to 1,22,335, according to the latest Union health ministry data. The death toll has climbed to 5,25,343 with 38 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. An increase of 2,878 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
