Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy this evening which the Saolta Hospital Group says has resulted in pressure on bed availability in the hospital. Patients are currently experiencing long waiting times to be admitted from the Emergency Department to an acute bed in the hospital. The Outbreak Control Team at Letterkenny University Hospital say they continue to meet on a daily basis to manage the outbreak and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Almost 1,100 staff were tested as part of the universal screening which is the largest hospital-wide screening programme to have taken place in Ireland to date. As a result, the COVID-19 virus was detected in less than 1% of staff tested as part of the universal screening programme. 0.4% of the 1000 plus staff tested had an active infection.
