As always, thank you for joining us. the storm now off the coast of charleston where i am, any sign it has made the turn away from land? >> still moving north at 10 miles an hour. just still so powerful with those 115 mile-an-hour winds. look at these outer rain bands as well. we're seeing some of that rain stretch into north carolina as well. there's actually tornado warnings been issued in some of those rain bands. tornadoes, one of the big threats. but this is a life threatening situation and the storm surge still yet a come. >> and i know you say don't worry too much about where exactly it...

I'm john berman in charleston, south carolina. this is cnn special live coverage of hurricane dorian. joining me now is storm chaser aaron jajack. you've been out here all night in charleston. what are you seeing? >> we're starting to get the flooding as we expected in the historic district. the police have areas blocked off as the water is starting to rise. it's coming up to houses in the area there. it's only going to get worse during the afternoon and we have another high tide cycle this afternoon. >> they always talk about the triple threat, right? there's th the tide, and the storm surge....

And what is expected in coming hours? >> reporter: yeah, rosemary, i was listening intently to you and the discussion you had with pedram. he was talking about how there are hurricane force gusts along the east coast of florida. we haven't experienced that here. we've had sustained tropical storm force winds in martin county right near the jensen beach area where i'm located on the inner coastal, which is directly behind me. we've had driving rain as well, when some of the outer rain bands make its way in. we've also seen surging seas as well. this is the inner coastal, it's a mixture of ocean...

Are perhaps not taking it seriously enough? >> i think they responded as well as anyone could. you've got to consider what they've gone through over the past four or five days. they hay category 5 -- a category 4 hurricane expected to make landfall on the east coast of their shores. that didn't happen. it's scraping along the coast. they had mandatory evacuations. those were rescinded and then brought back again. so this flip-flopping is not only a headache for the residents that live here but also the county officials that make those important decisions. of course people took them seriously w...
