Youngster gets fit to raise cash in grandad's memory

A SCHOOLBOY is raising money for a brain tumour charity after losing his grandfather to the disease.
Charlie Shane-Stone, from Ovingham in Northumberland, has ran, walked and cycled a combined distance of 52.4 miles over the course of seven days for Brain Tumour Research.
The 12-year-old is raising vital funds after his grandfather Michael Shane, from Prudhoe, died from a brain tumour in April 2016, just five months after receiving his devastating diagnosis.
A former Tynedale local council manager, he was 72 and enjoying retirement with his wife Ann when, in December 2015, he was given the agonising news that he had an aggressive brain tumour. ....

Ovingham Middle School pupil raises money for Brain Tumour Research


A 12-YEAR-OLD boy has raised more than £1,750 for Brain Tumour Research after taking on a fitness challenge in memory of his grandad.
Charlie Shane-Stone, from Ovingham, ran, walked and cycled a combined distance of 52.4 miles, the equivalent of two marathons, over the course of seven days.
Charlie’s grandad Michael Shane died in 2016, at the age of 72, after he was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma mulitforme (GBM) tumour.
Charlie said: “My grandad Michael always played tricks on me and my nan. He was a lovely grandad and great fun to be around. We used to play dominoes and watch the ‘Toon army’ together and he made me laugh all of the time. I love and miss him very much. ....
