"Electron Accumulation Induced by Electron Injection-Incomplete Dischar" by Rongrong Zhang, Yun Han et al. - Vimarsana News

"Electron Accumulation Induced by Electron Injection-Incomplete Dischar" by Rongrong Zhang, Yun Han et al.

Optimizing the local electronic structure of electrocatalysts can effectively lower the energy barrier of electrochemical reactions, thus enhancing the electrocatalytic activity. However, the intrinsic contribution of the electronic effect is still experimentally unclear. In this work, the electron injection-incomplete discharge approach to achieve the electron accumulation (EA) degree on the nickel-iron layered double hydroxide (NiFe LDH) is proposed, to reveal the intrinsic contribution of EA toward oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Such NiFe LDH with EA effect results in only 262 mV overpote...

"2D Ferromagnetic M3GeTe2 (M = Ni/Fe) for Boosting Intermediates Adsorp" by Guyue Bo, Peng Li et al. - Vimarsana News

"2D Ferromagnetic M3GeTe2 (M = Ni/Fe) for Boosting Intermediates Adsorp" by Guyue Bo, Peng Li et al.

In this work, 2D ferromagnetic M3GeTe2 (MGT, M = Ni/Fe) nanosheets with rich atomic Te vacancies (2D-MGTv) are demonstrated as efficient OER electrocatalyst via a general mechanical exfoliation strategy. X-ray absorption spectra (XAS) and scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) results validate the dominant presence of metal-O moieties and rich Te vacancies, respectively. The formed Te vacancies are active for the adsorption of OH* and O* species while the metal-O moieties promote the O* and OOH* adsorption, contributing synergistically to the faster oxygen evolution kinetics. Consequ...

"Architecting the metal-nonmetal oxide layers for boosting the oxygen-e" by Junying Jiang, Xiaolong Guo et al. - Vimarsana News

"Architecting the metal-nonmetal oxide layers for boosting the oxygen-e" by Junying Jiang, Xiaolong Guo et al.

Designing high-efficiency and freestanding electrocatalysts hold immense importance in addressing the limitations of powdered electrocatalysts and accelerating the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in advancing energy technologies. While dealloyed amorphous ribbons have been shown to be active and self-supporting electrocatalysts toward OER, the underlying enhancement mechanism remains unclear. Here, we developed a dealloyed Ni-Fe-B-Si-P amorphous electrocatalysts with a mixed oxide layer (including oxo-anions: phosphate, silicate, and borate). The dealloyed oxide layer ...

Green hydrogen: Improving the stability of iridium catalysts with titanium oxides

Anodes for the electrolytic splitting of water are usually iridium-based materials. In order to increase the stability of the iridium catalyst, a team at HZB and a group at HI-ERN have now produce ...

"Valence Oscillation of Ru Active Sites for Efficient and Robust Acidic" by Liming Deng, Sung Fu Hung et al. - Vimarsana News

"Valence Oscillation of Ru Active Sites for Efficient and Robust Acidic" by Liming Deng, Sung Fu Hung et al.

The continuous oxidation and leachability of active sites in Ru-based catalysts hinder practical application in proton-exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWE). Herein, robust inter-doped tungsten–ruthenium oxide heterostructures [(Ru–W)Ox] fabricated by sequential rapid oxidation and metal thermomigration processes are proposed to enhance the activity and stability of acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The introduction of high-valent W species induces the valence oscillation of the Ru sites during OER, facilitating the cyclic transition of the active metal oxidation states and m...
