Flower vendors allowed to resume business at city flower market | Coimbatore News

COIMBATORE: Following the state government’s decision to reopen schools for Class X and XII students from Tuesday, the city corporation on Saturday decided to shift the flower vendors, who had occupied the Devanga Higher Secondary School premises, to the flower market on Mettupalayam Road. The vendors are likely to resume their business at the market from Sunday.
After closing the market due to lockdown, the corporation had moved the vendors to the school premises in June as it was difficult for customers to maintain physical distancing. As many as 144 vendors had been selling flowers from the school premises. ....

Coimbatore Corporation will complete by Saturday morning the work to restore the damaged Perks School Arch Road.
The road, on which the Corporation was laying an underground sewer line, was damaged in Wednesday’s rain. It caved in at a few places, leaving some vehicles stuck. ....

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian on Wednesday reviewed the progress made in various projects taken up under the Smart Cities Mission and the 24x7 drinking water supply scheme.
A release from the Corporation said he took stock of the progress made in the lake development project, model road work in R.S. Puram and Race Course, the construction of micro compost centres and the 24x7 drinking water supply project.
He also sought details from engineers supervising the construction of multi-level car parking lot on D.B. Road.
Thereafter, he reviewed water distribution, ward-wise and asked them to ensure no disruption in water supply. ....

COIMBATORE: The struggle of residents of VNR Nagar in Vadavalli to retrieve the open space reservation (OSR) land in the layout is 25 years old. Even after getting a high court direction in their favour in 2015, the residents are yet to enjoy the benefits of the land.
As nine out of 12 OSR sites are still encroached, the residents want the city corporation to initiate action against the encroachers.
“Following the HC order that OSR sites should be used only for the approved purpose,s the city corporation demolished two houses constructed in a land and fenced the area. The civic body also issued eviction notices to the encroachers and inspected the site several times. But the corporation officials took no steps to evict the encroachers. As the Highways Department is all set to start work on the 10-km Avinashi Road elevated corridor project, the traffic congestion that the work will cause and the absence of alternative roads to go east of the city throw light on the Coimbatore Corporation’s failure to develop scheme roads.
