Myanmar Regime Abducts 75-Yr-Old Chairwoman of NLD Branch in Yangon Shwepyitha Township NLD chairwoman Daw Mya Mya Win 492 By The Irrawaddy 6 April 2021 Myanmar’s military regime on Sunday arrested the chairwoman of the National League for Democracy (NLD)’s branch in Yangon’s Shwepyitha Township. Regime forces abducted Daw Mya Mya Win from her house at around 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to sources close to her. Junta troops also reportedly came for her in March, but at the time, the 75-year-old was away from her home in hiding. On that occasion they instead took her daughter-in-law for interrogation. “As security forces didn’t see her, they took her daughter-in-law for interrogation and released her around two hours later,” said a source close to Daw Mya Mya Win. ....

U Kyaw Kyaw, an executive member of the NLD’s branch in Naypyitaw’s Zabuthiri Township, died on March 30 while being interrogated by the security forces. The Irrawaddy interviewed two of the protesters among those being tortured after their release from custody. Thura is a false name used to protect the protester. Around 70 protesters, including many students, were arrested at around 9am on Tuesday in the southern city where they gathered to protest against the military regime.
