As the night falls on the Lunar South Pole, temperatures plummet to a bone-chilling -200 degrees Celsius, posing a severe risk of freezing the rover and lander, potentially damaging their vital instruments. Even though the mission was planned for just 14 days, the meticulous planning aimed at safeguarding the Vikram and Pragyan holds high hopes for a successful revival, allowing ISRO to continue their exploration.

On August 26, 2023, the Vikram Lander, a part of Chandrayaan-3, captured a seismic event (moonquake) on the lunar surface, using a state-of-the-art payload known as the Instrument for the Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA). This event, believed to be natural, has set the scientific community abuzz, as ISRO continues its investigation to pinpoint the source of this lunar phenomenon.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday shared images of the moon from the far side area captured on August 19.

“The second and final deboosting operation has successfully reduced the LM orbit to 25 km x 134 km. The module would undergo internal checks and await the sun-rise at the designated landing site. The powered descent is expected to commence on August 23, 2023, around 1745 Hrs. IST," said ISRO.

India's lunar rover, named 'Pragyan', which means wisdom in Sanskrit, is poised to embark on a pioneering mission of lunar discovery through Chandrayaan-3, if the lander module named Vikram lands correctly this time.
