The 19th City Council passed on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, an ordinance creating the Davao City Workers Protection and Development Office (WPDO). Councilor Pamela Librado-Morata said the ordinance aims to protect the rights of the labor force and ensure the well-being of all workers within its jurisdiction and provide them with proper information of their rights and access to protection of their welfare. Librado-Morata, chairperson on labor and employment opportunities, said the ordinance will apply to all workers, whether resident of Davao City or not, and all employers whose place of business is found within the territorial jurisdiction of the City Government of Davao or the main/head office is located in Davao City. ....

February 05, 2021 A YEAR since the African Swine Fever (ASF) hit Davao Region, nearly 42,000 hogs owned by an over 8,000 hog raisers were depopulated as a mitigating measure to curb the spread of the animal virus, the Department of Agriculture-Davao Region (DA-Davao) reported. DA-Davao ASF focal person Armie Capuyan told SunStar Davao in a phone interview that 41,831 were culled because of the disease from January 2020 to present. A total of 23,326 pigs were culled in Davao Occidental, 6,431 in Davao del Sur, 4,463 in Davao City, 4,599 in Davao del Norte, 2,330 in Davao de Oro, and 682 in Davao Oriental. As of now, Capuyan said Davao Occidental has no reported ASF cases, while Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro provinces are undergoing disease control activities. ....
