Maoist links: NIA raids 25 human rights and civil liberties activists in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh


The National Investigation Agency simultaneously raided the premises of at least 25 human rights and civil liberties activists in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh late on Wednesday for alleged Maoist links.
According to the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, the raids continued till the early hours of Thursday and the sleuths seized phones, computers, laptops, books and papers from the activists.
Among those raided are said to be some of the most prominent activists in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including Raghunath Verose, a Telangana High Court advocate who is associated with the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee, Dappu Ramesh who is a member of the Jana Natya Mandali, V.S. Krishna of the Human Rights Forum, and Paani, Varalakshmi and Arun of the Revolutionary Writers’ Association, sources said. ....

New Delhi, April 1 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at 31 locations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including the premises of Advocate V Raghunath, K Padma and KS Chalam and several civil and tribal right activists in connection with its probe into the Munchingput maoist case and recovered cash to the tune of Rs 10 lakh and several other incriminating documents.
An NIA official related top probe told IANS, The agency sleuths carried out searches at the premises of Raghunath, Padma, Chalam, revolutionary singer Dappu Ramesh, Pragatishil Women Organisation President Rajeshwari, premises of arrested accused Annapurna and Srinivasan. ....

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 1 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at the residences of civil liberty members Dappu Ramesh and Chandrashekar, and accused advocate Raghunath in connection with a case pertaining to the recovery of Naxal literature from a journalist in various locations across Andhra Pradesh.
According to NIA s FIR registered on March 7, on November 23 last year, Munchingput police in Andhra Pradesh arrested a journalist Pangi Naganna and allegedly recovered revolutionary Maoist literature, press notes, medicines, wire bundles and other incriminating material from his possession. ....

New Delhi, April 1 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at 31 locations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in connection with its probe into the Munchingput maoist case and recovered cash to the tune of Rs 10 lakh and several other incriminating documents.
The NIA team seized 40 mobile phones, 44 SIM cards, 70 storage devices like hard discs, micro SD cards and flash cards, 184 CDs or DVDs, 19 pen drives, tab, audio recorder, Rs 10 lakhs in cash from one accused, sickles, axe, machetes besides CPI (Maoist) flags, as well as huge number of incriminating documents, handwritten letters of CPI(Maoist) party literature, CPI(Maoist) press notes etc, an NIA spokesperson here said. ....

Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency on late Wednesday evening conducted simultaneous searches at the houses of advocates, civil liberties activists and writers in seven different places in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, sources said.
Searches were conducted by NIA sleuths, who were accompanied by Andhra Pradesh police, at Telangana civil liberties committee vice-president and high-court advocate V Raghunath’ residence in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad.
“The searches have been going on since 6 pm. The NIA authorities seized the laptop and the computer of Raghunath and inspected them,” confirmed the committee’s president G Laxman. He also condemned the ‘illegal raids’ by the NIA on the advocates and other rights activists ....
