Falcon capital of the world: Nagaland witnesses more Amur falcons this year

Our Reporter Dimapur, Oct. 29 (EMN): After witnessing a drop in the number of Amur falcons for two years, Pangti village, which earned Nagaland the moniker “Falcon capital of the world”, is said to be noticing a surge this year. In an unusual move, the migratory bird had shifted its roosting site from Makvü Tongti and Tzüza Eryü at Pangti village to a location between Pangti and Aree villages,which is about 4 km away from the actual roosting site (Tzüza Eryü), since 2020. Amur Falcon Roosting Area Union (AFRAU) President, P Thungchumo Shidio told Eastern Mirror that the number of Amur falcons has increased to a large extent this year, adding  that more than 1000 winged guests have also been sighted roosting at Chubi River area. Amur falcons sighted at Pangti - Eastern Mirror

Our Reporter Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): The Amur Falcon migratory season appears to have begun with sightings of a few birds reported around the roosting site at Pangti village. The advisor of Amur Falcon Roosting Area Union (AFRAU) Thungbemo told Eastern Mirror that few of the migratory birds have been observed hovering around the roosting site at Pangti Village. Thungbemo added that the first batch of birds had not yet arrived, however they are expecting them to arrive within this week. The advisor also informed that AFRAU has restricted visitors at the Amur Falcon roosting place during the October. It may be mentioned that on September 18, AFRAU resident, P Thungchumo Shidio, informed in a press statement, that the restriction was imposed as the Amur Falcons avoided their actual roosting place at Pangti village during the last migration season. According to the AFRAU, the reason behind this might be because of human habitation and disturbance during their first phase of arrival. Theref ....

Leaders told to hold special Sunday on wildlife conservation

Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): While illustrating that wildlife is the creation of God, the director of Intangki National Park (INP), T Aochuba, has urged the church leaders to spread the message of conservation in their respective churches by organising a special Sunday service to protect and save the beautiful creation of God. Speaking at a programme to mark the Wildlife Week held at Manglumukh village council hall on October 1, Aochuba, has stressed on conserving wildlife and urged the local church leaders present in the programme to spread the conservation message in their respective churches. Stating that wildlife too is the creation of God, he said the onus is on us to protect and save the beautiful creation of God. Mhathung Yanthan inaugurates Pangti village community building

Our Correspondent Wokha, Sep. 30 (EMN): Advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, on Friday urged the people of Pangti village, dubbed as Amur Falcon capital of the world,  to tap its rich natural resources, adding that the Doyang dam also could help propel the economic status of the people. Speaking at the inaugural programme of the Pangti village community building, he lauded the people involved in construction of the facility for the timely completion. He further called upon the congregation to do away with political differences and to come together and work closely with any elected legislator. Nagaland angling competition held at Doyang reservoir

Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): The fifth edition of the Nagaland State angling competition organised by Anglers’ Association Nagaland (AAN) in collaboration with the state department of Fisheries & Aquatics Resources was held at Tzuza Eryü Doyang Reservoir, Pangti village, Wokha, on September 23 and 24. In the valedictory event held at Phodong Resort & Recreational Centre, director, department of Fisheries & Aquatics Resources, Rongsennungba, graced the event as special guest, AAN informed in an update. The director in his speech acknowledged the sincere efforts of the villagers, especially host village Pangti, for successfully stopping illegal fishing using dynamite at Doyang. Rongsennungba requested the villagers to sensitise the locals to practice sustainable way of fishing and to minimise the use of gillnets.
