As the forecast suggests for the national hurricane center. it has done that. because of water temperatures here just fueling the system. it s huge. it s massive. look at this. all the way from just about the central panhandle down towards cape coral. fort myers, naples florida. you re looking at this broad system. it encompasses a huge sloth of central, western sections of florida. the impact is gonna be tremendous. another problem is that it s moving north and 50 miles an hour. it had been 16. for that was 17, before that 18. slow down is not good for hurricane. if you are online. it suggests that it s really going to intensify. in this, case pretty rapidly. category three. hundreds of miles from cedar key. ....

Some isolated amounts of a foot of rain and then this area of low pressure will move up towards the carolinas, offshore. and then we re going to have to watch it this weekend as it lingers. some of the computer models shows it looping towards the southeast coast as we get into next week. here are the peak storm surge reports. upwards of 16 feed, that s never happened in this area of the big bend in historical records. that is going to overtop homes, it s going to inundate roadways. it s going to cause life-threatening flooding for these regions. here s the wind gusts forecast for some of these areas. again, if you live across the big bend, if you live across the panhandle, you could be dealing with hurricane force winds for duration of hours. so now you have to stay put, right, until emergency vehicles can get to you if you need that power outages certainly likely and, of course, hurricane warns stretching now into south carolina. we will continue to monitor. this 130 mile-per-hour us ....

Big bend area near the panhandle, was it ready for a category 3 storm? reporter: it s a great question. i would say there are two different stories as i drove last night late last night from steinhatchee where bill weir is right now to here. and steinhatchee and along the coast, they were boarding up, putting the sandbags up and they evacuated, many people evacuated because there s nothing you can do in the storm surge. we re going to see pictures from there. and we have all morning. if that water rises 10 to 12 feet, no sandbag is going to stop that. if your house is in the way, your house very likely will be destroyed or severely flooded. as you headed inland, there was some areas around perry, i would say, where we just spoke and lost communication with those two gentlemen, i saw very few preparations. not much at all to get ready for this storm. gas stations were still open and had gas in the town of perry, which is unusual for days ....

Wednesday, august 30th. i m jonathan lemire. thanks for starting your day with us. and we, of course, begin rng this morning with hurricane idalia which is now a category 4 storm and is forecasted to make landfall along florida s big bend where the peninsula merges into the panhandle as a category 4 hurricane between 6:00 and 9:00 this morning, eastern time. that s just a few hours from now. if idalia does make landfall as a category 4, the national hurricane center says it ll have sustained winds of 130 to 156 miles per hour with a very high risk of injury or death, and it would likely produce catastrophic damage. another major concern is an expected record breaking storm surge of 12 to 16 feet in the landfall zone. florida officials warn the surge could impact areas up to 200 miles south into the tampa area and may leave portions of of ....
