Paranaque announces road closures for LRT-1 extension works

(Courtesy of PTV Facebook) MANILA - The Paranaque City government on Monday announced a partial closure of a portion of Imelda Bridge along Ninoy Aquino Avenue's northbound side due to construction works in the Light Rail Transit-1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension Project. The advisory of the city's Traffic and Parking Management Office said the closure will be from 10 p.m. on September 20 to 5 a.m. on September 21 and 10 p.m. on September 27 to 5 a.m. on September 28. The affected dates will see the installation of tracks and overhead catenary system on the viaduct which will require casting of concrete piths and pedestals. The project will extend LRT-1 by 11.8 kilometers to Cavite from the southernmost existing station in Baclaran, Paranaque and will lengthen the railway from 20 to 28 stations. LRT-1 was the first rapid transit in Southeast Asia that began operations in 1984, built during the term of President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. The extension is expected to service an estimated ....
